Pocket from A Woman at her Toilet
A Woman at her Toilet (Donna alla toeletta), by Alessandro Allori, 1575-78,
fresco, Florence, Church of Santa Maria Novella, Gaddi chapel, pg 138,
fig. 71.
"The woman is portrayed in the act of dressing her hair with
fresh flowers, a custom typical of Tuscan women. From her waist hangs
a pocket or 'saccoccia' made from a precious fabric patterned in gold
(cf. also fig. 30) and a needle case
where we can glimpse the tip of the scissors."
My focus for this image is actually the pocket and the needle case worn
by the lady.
