Decorative woodcut in golden colors

This garment was started on October 9, 2007 and finished on October 18, 2007, with some additions added in December. The client wanted the frock coat for his Changeling costume for a major LARP gathering at the International Camarilla Conclave in October of 2007. I wish I was able to see how his entire costume and make up looked at the event, considering his initial inspiration piece.

The fabric is a soft and beautiful dark red cotton velveteen, with a dark brown rayon lining fabric. The body is interlined in cotton canvas to provide body. The buttons were purchased from The Queen's Favor, a local renaissance vendor.

The pattern came from Reconstructing History, and was the first time I had used a pattern from this company. I've known the owner Kass via the Internet for many years, and her pattern was the first I recommended to my client, as I knew it would be very close to his inspiration images, and comes highly researched from historical garments.

The pattern is developed to fit fairly closely to the body, so a mockup was essential to get the proper fit. The body is also not meant to close fully in front, but to remain open to show off the under clothing.

The frock coat fits the client very well over his chest, and through his back and arms. The tails in back hang free, and provide an elegance to the man's carriage. I hope to add an image or two of him wearing the frock coat in person someday.
